How to Make Your Own Yutenori
Yute nori is a popular Korean wooden stick game that is primarily played on New Year's Day. You can purchase this game at our store or try making it yourself with your children. It makes a great craft project that is also cultural! Here's a good link that gives you directions on how to make one. You will need a tagbard, 4 craft sticks, sticker dots, markers and game pieces.

Kids Cafes in Korea
Kids Cafes are where the Korean moms go to hang out with friends while their kids play...kinda like Chuck E. Cheese except that at these Kids Cafes, they have "Teachers" that watch and play with your kids while you sit and enjoy a nice lunch with your mommy friends! How great is that? So wish they had these in the states!

Happy Mother's Day!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! We celebrated Mother's Day by going to our family's church as they honored our dear 100 year old grandmother with a Life Achievement Award. As she goes to a first generation Korean church, Mother's Day was celebrated Korean style. All the mother's were given a red carnation corsage, guests were served a Korean meal, the children gave a special performance, and mothers were given a towel gift.
The lovely halmonis who were honored today.
Towel gifts imprinted with Korean writing to commemorate the occasion.
Korean meal (rice, kimchi and soup)
Red carnations were displayed as centerpieces as well.
Children performing for the adults.

Parents Day in Korea
Koreans celebrate Parents Day on May 8. According to the Korea Times, cash was the top gift list for Parents Day. For more information on Parents Day, you can read http://www.korea.net/news.do?mode=detail&guid=46485 to learn more about it.
Giving a red carnation is a common practice to give honor to your elders. I never knew that was a Korean custom...no wonder I was always given a red carnation to give to my mother on Mother's Day at church!

Korean Celebrities as Kids!
Happy Children's Day!
May 5 is the official Korean holiday for children. It is customary for parents to take out their children to a day of fun, like a picnic, museum or amusement park. Children also receive gifts from their parents and grandparents. Although this holiday is not really celebrated here in the US, I know there are some of you who will try to do something extra special for their child today.
My children know its Children's Day today because their grandparents (1st generation KA) called to wish them a "Happy Children's Day" and also gave them a gift. Is anyone celebrating Children's Day today? If so, we would love to hear about it! Please email us at info@littleseouls.com.
