Creative twist to Traditional Korean Rice Cakes

Anyone a fan? She's the national role model in Korea, especially among young girls. She's so popular that some parents will add these miniature skates to their doljabi event!

She'll be competing for gold for the women's figure skating medal.

Cocomong (코코몽) the Korean Monkey

Cocomong, a Korean animated cartoon series is quite popular among 3 to 5 year olds in Korea. The cartoon is about a curious monkey and the fantasy world of food and fun!

How to make your own Dol Towers (Dol Go Im)

Tori Gamble shares how she and her family made their Dol Towers:

We first went to the hardware store 'Home Depot' and bought a 8" wide concrete pouring tube (about 4 ft long). We then measured the tube for cutting into four equal cylinders. Next we cut the tube with a large utility knife.

Then we took each tube and glued paper to cover the facing sides. For the Gum-ball and Candy Mint designs we drew a grid to help with the placement of the candies. For the Year of the Rat design we drew a Cartoon Rat to help guide us in placement of beans. For the 'Celebrate 1st Birthday in Hangul' we printed out the fancy hangul and placed it on the tube to help guide us in bean placement.

Then let the hot gluing begin! Each day/night during our daughter's naps we were busy gluing for about 2 weeks.

For the cookie tower we used a paper towel roll for the center glued to a piece of cardboard. We then mixed up some gingerbread icing and began stacking in a free form design. (Just let the artist free thyself!) The cookie tower was by far our favorite to make, since we got to munch on broken unusable cookies after we completed out work.

Dol Poster Board

Planning a dol? You can try making one of these poster boards to display your baby's pictures at the photo table. Yes, photo table. Have you seen them? See our post back in January of '09. They are quite elaborate.

I thought getting those presentation boards at an office supply store would be perfect for these. If you've made your own, please send us your pics and we will post them on our blog! I know we've got lots of crafty blog readers out there! :-)

Penguins are ready for the Lunar New Year

As the Lunar New Year approaches, Koreans are getting into the spirit by taking out their hanboks and preparing family feasts.

At Korea's Everland Amusement Park, which is like their Disneyland, they will have penguins greet visitors in traditional hanboks! They look like they are trying to sae bae! Too funny not to share!

Fruit Decoration Idea for Dol (Dohl) Party

The center table for a Korean child's first birthday party, otherwise known as a "Dol," always includes a collection of fruit on display. Usually, parents will decorate the dol table by stacking fruit on a platter or carving out creative fruit centerpieces.

Recently, I got a Edible Arrangements fruit gift and it made me think about how perfect these would be for a dol party fruit display!

The Japanese Eraser Craze!

Have you seen these things? They are so cute! Apparently it's not only a craze in Japan and Korea but in the US! Kids are collecting these things like trading cards and even trading them too! They come in cute animals, baked goods, soups, drinks, ramen, bento boxes and many more!

Do they actually erase? Yes, apparently even better than a #2 pencil eraser but no one actual uses them to erase!
